Volcanoes
Hawaii is an archipelago that has 132 islands and eight main islands. Hawaii was made one million years ago by volcanoes. Hawaii has 18 volcanoes, 11 inactive, four sleeping and three spewing lava. The main island has five volcanoes, one inactive, one sleeping, and three active volcanoes called Maunaloa, Kilauea, and Loihi. There are three volcanoes, one could erupt and make another island.

In the Pacific Ocean
The Hawaiian islands are in the Pacific Ocean, the largest ocean in the world. Hawaii is about 2,400 miles away from the United States mainland. All 132 islands that make up Hawaii is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. The humpbacked whale, which is Hawaii's marine mammal, migrates around Hawaii during the winter months and returns to the colder waters during the summer. Also, surfers love to surf the big waves of the Pacific Ocean for sport and for fun.

Beaches
Hawaii has red sand beaches, black sand beaches, blue sand beaches, pink sand beaches, white sand beaches, brown sand beaches, and green sand beaches. There is a glass beach on the island Maui and the glass is called sea glass. Waikiki Beach is a popular beach on Oahu for people to visit. Waikiki Beach has a shallow area for kids, shaded areas to rest, restaurants, surf boarding, you can also snorkel by the reefs and all of that is in two miles.

Climate
Temperature
Hawaii has a tropical climate that is warm all the time. There are two seasons, from November through April the climate is cooler and humid called the humid season and from June through October the climate is warmer and dry and it is called the dry season. In the humid season it is in the low 80s during the day and in the mid-60s at night. In the dry season it is warmer, during the day it is in the mid-80s and the low 70s at night.
Precipitation
In Hawaii, the humid season gets the most rainfall than the dry season. In winter, during the humid months of January, November, and December, have the most rainfall out of all the months. In the summer months (dry season) it rains only a few inches a month. On the island of Maui, it receives several hundred inches of rain each year. It snows almost every winter on the three tallest volcanoes in Hawaii.
